About the Outer Banks SPCA
We care for animals.
The Outer Banks SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization, which staffs and manages the Dare County Animal Shelter. Since 1978 the Dare County Animal Shelter has been serving the Outer Banks community to offer help to animals in need. The shelter is concerned with the welfare of all animals, domestic, feral, or wild. As the only animal shelter in Dare County, the Outer Banks SPCA is a community resource for pets and people that help abandoned and homeless animals across our County.
Our animal shelter offers a wide variety of services to promote the human-animal bond. These services include pet adoption and re-homing, low-cost spay and neuter assistance, vaccine clinics, supporting local wildlife rescue, human law enforcement Animal Control services for lost and stray pets, community outreach, volunteer opportunities, and so much more.
Educating the public about responsible pet ownership and proper care is an important part of the OBX SPCA’s service mission, as well. The animal shelter promotes the responsible placement of adopted animals and provides a loving environment and temporary housing for unwanted, unadopted, sick or injured animals. The OBX SPCA is proud to give homeless pets the care, comfort, love, and the second change at a new life they deserve!
Our mission is simple. We’re here to care for animals without homes. We offer them food, shelter, medical care, love and compassion. We also help people, too. Our programs and services bring animals and people together in ways that benefit them all.
